📘 Overview
The Office of Public Festivities & Observances (OPFO) is the Kingdom’s joyful steward of national holidays, regional festivals, ceremonial anniversaries, community revelries, and sanctioned public merriment. From ancient torchlit rituals to modern festivals of ribbon and rhyme, the OPFO ensures that every seasonal joy, civic milestone, and culturally ambiguous parade receives its due pomp.
Established in 1952 by the Decree of Joyous Regularity, this office also maintains the Royal Calendar of Celebrations, licenses official festival colors and slogans, and oversees the proper distribution of festival confetti (standard and enchanted varieties).
🎠 Core Responsibilities
- Maintain the Calendar of Official Observances & Civic Holidays
- Coordinate Kingdom-wide Festivals, Feasts, and Parades
- Sanction local and regional celebrations with Official Festival Charters
- Record new holidays, significant anniversaries, and time-loop days
- Provide decorative guidance, music licensing, and fire-juggling permits

🏵️ The Day of Many Ribbons
Celebrated with dancing, weaving, and the ceremonial knotting of grievances into ribbon garlands.
🌑 Midyear Twilight Revel
Held at dusk on the longest night. Features glowing lanterns, mysterious snack-sharing, and polite mischief.
📜 Founding Day
Honors the establishment of the Realm. Traditions include public readings, ceremonial toasts, and people loudly pretending they were there.
🥧 The Feast of Regrettable Recipes
Citizens attempt family dishes of dubious origin. Laughter and mild indigestion abound.
🧾 Request a Festival Charter
Want to propose a new holiday or revive an ancient local tradition? Submit:
- A name, date, and symbolic animal or plant
- A short description of planned activities (with bunting level estimate)
- Your preferred celebratory noise or phrase
- Optional: recipe, sketch of commemorative hat
Charters are reviewed bi-weekly by the Council of Hoopla and Harmony.
