📘 Overview

The International Relations Office (IRO) is the strategic and administrative body within the Ministry of the Exterior responsible for coordinating the Kingdom’s foreign policy, diplomatic recognition, treaty development, and global outreach initiatives. While the Embassy and Consular Corps handles individual representation, the IRO is the mind behind the map—designing Eyehasseen’s broader engagement with the outside world, both real and imagined.

Established in 1961, shortly after the unsuccessful bid for observer status at the League of Imaginary Nations (denied on grounds of “excessive sincerity”), the Office has since become a model of micronational diplomacy and structured whimsy. Its efforts have helped place Eyehasseen firmly within the polite circles of mutual recognition, symbolic cooperation, and ceremonial friendship.

🎯 Responsibilities

The International Relations Office is tasked with:

  • Drafting and reviewing treaties of mutual recognition, non-aggression, and cultural exchange
  • Maintaining the Register of Recognized States, including micronations, free cities, digital dominions, and some enchanted groves
  • Hosting and attending inter-micronational summits, roundtables, and teapot conferences
  • Representing Eyehasseen in matters of global policy such as symbolic border clarifications, shared holiday observances, and the Universal Postal Etiquette Compact

🔹 Treaties and Agreements Division

  • Drafts and archives all formal diplomatic documents
  • Maintains the Treaty Repository of Eyehasseen, including:
    • The Pact of Serene Cartography
    • The Four-Hat Accords
    • The Multilateral Agreement on the Use of Mildly Magical Seals
  • Works closely with the Ministry of Truth to ensure clarity, accuracy, and acceptable poetic rhythm

  • Manages all petitions from external nations for diplomatic recognition

  • Coordinates Eyehasseen’s participation in diplomatic gatherings (physical, virtual, or entirely ceremonial)
  • Hosts the annual Circle of Friendly Flags, attended by delegates, stand-ins, and well-dressed puppets
  • Manages the Dais of Global Whim, where national positions are occasionally performed as interpretive dance

📜 Guidance for Foreign Entities

Foreign states, micronations, guilds, orders, or noble houses wishing to initiate diplomatic contact with the Kingdom of Eyehasseen may submit:

  • A formal letter of introduction (seal optional, sincerity preferred)
  • A statement of purpose or intent
  • An image or description of their flag, emblem, or symbolic vegetable
  • Any previously signed declarations, manifestos, or tea service preferences

Submissions are reviewed monthly by the Interrealm Correspondence Committee and responded to in the order received—or based on whim, if politely phrased.
