🐉 Archive of the Heraldic Bestiary

Ministry of the Populi | Bureau of Names, Titles & Heraldic Declarations
“Every banner needs a beast, and every beast deserves a scroll.”

📘 Overview

The Archive of the Heraldic Bestiary is the official illustrated compendium of Eyehasseen’s most noble, symbolic, and occasionally imaginary creatures—each one carefully rendered, described, and matched to the families, guilds, and institutions whose heraldry they adorn.

Maintained by the Bureau of Names, Titles & Heraldic Declarations, the archive ensures that no rampant wyvern goes undocumented, no stoic badger is misattributed, and no owl is misinterpreted as a scholar when it is, in fact, a tavern patron.

📜 How to Use the Bestiary

  • Browse the Official Registry of Heraldic Creatures
  • Learn about the symbolic meanings, historical origin, and approved colorings
  • Request the assignment of a new creature to your personal banner or family crest (Form 118-H required)
  • Propose the revival of a retired beast (must be accompanied by rhyme or persuasive drawing)

🦁 Sample Entries from the Archive

The Golden Hart of Wainsgrove

“Ever alert, often bewildered.”
A symbol of vigilance and modest ambition. Commonly featured above scrolls, beneath suns, or mid-leap toward an unread book.

The Crimson Hedgebeast

“Prickled, but noble.”
This stately creature of the underbrush is associated with quiet strength, ancestral stubbornness, and fine jam-making.

The Clockwork Griffipede

“Forward in motion, backward in time.”
An alchemical hybrid of griffin and centipede. Granted only to inventors and scribes with six or more moving parts.

The Three-Eyed Raven of Stonequill

“Knows too much, says too little.”
Assigned exclusively to scholars, seers, and library custodians. Carries scrolls in one claw and secrets in the other.

The Lantern Lizard

“One eye open, one flame lit.”
Illuminator of dark truths and noble tunnels. Popular in the lower valleys and with guilds specializing in metaphors.

The Regal Stoat

“Small in size, vast in ambition.”
Once falsely declared extinct by a rival house. Reclaimed in triumph during the Winter Tapestry Rebellion.

🧾 Requesting a New Heraldic Creature

Citizens or guilds seeking to add a creature to their banner must submit:

  • A description or sketch (including posture and accessories, if any)
  • A proposed name and symbolic meaning
  • Coloration preferences (not to conflict with neighboring households)
  • A short justification (may be allegorical, historical, or heartfelt)

Note: Hybrid beasts must include a binding agreement that both animal essences are respected.
