The Master of Arts in Theology at St. Leo the Great University is designed for those who seek to study God as He reveals Himself, in the fullness of the Catholic tradition, through Sacred Scripture, the Church Fathers, the Magisterium, and the sacred liturgy.
Rooted in the theological vision of St. Leo the Great, this program forms students in both doctrinal fidelity and contemplative depth. Whether you are discerning a vocation, preparing for teaching or ministry, or simply desiring to deepen your intellectual and spiritual life, the M.A. in Theology provides a firm foundation in truth and charity.
🎓 Degree Overview
- Degree: Master of Arts in Theology
- Credits: 36 semester hours (typically 2 years full-time)
- Mode: Residential or Distance Learning (synchronous via the Royal Eyehasseen Tele-Scholastic Network™)
- Tracks:
- Thesis Track: For those intending to pursue doctoral work
- Non-Thesis Track: For educators, lay ministers, or personal enrichment
All students follow a structured curriculum, with electives available through the Royal Honors Collegium and the Pontifical Athenaeum of Eyehasseen.

THEO 511: The Holy Trinity
Systematic exploration of Trinitarian theology from Nicaea to the Catechism.
THEO 521: Christology and Soteriology
The person and mission of Jesus Christ, drawing from Leo’s Tome and Chalcedon.
THEO 531: Sacred Scripture – Old Testament
Historical context, typology, and theological themes from Genesis through the Prophets.
THEO 541: Sacred Scripture – New Testament
The Gospels, Pauline theology, the Johannine corpus, and the unity of Scripture.
THEO 551: The Fathers of the Church
Patristic theology from Ignatius of Antioch to Gregory the Great.
THEO 561: Moral Theology
Classical and Thomistic moral reasoning, virtue ethics, conscience, and the natural law.
THEO 571: Ecclesiology and the Sacraments
The Church as Mystical Body, Temple, Bride, and Mother. Includes liturgical theology.
THEO 581: Mariology and the Saints
Mary in Scripture and tradition; communion of saints; theological anthropology.
THEO 590: Capstone Seminar
Integrative theological project (non-thesis track) or thesis proposal workshop.
✍️ Thesis Track
Students intending further academic work may apply to the Thesis Track, which includes:
- Additional tutorial in research methodology
- Faculty-supervised Master’s Thesis (12,000–15,000 words)
- Latin or Greek reading proficiency required
